Kendrick Lamar's 'DAMN' wins the Pulitzer Prize

Compton MC, Kendrick Lamar has made history by being the first rapper to win the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his critically acclaimed studio album, DAMN.

The Pulitzer Prize committee normally awards authors and journalist for their literary works. Musical artists from genres like Jazz or Country Music are often given the award as well but K Dot is the first rapper to win. This news comes as no surprise as Hip-hop now and has always been the most influential musical genre in the world. Last year, Jay-Z was admitted to the Songwriter's hall of fame for all of his years of work. It seems as though hip-hop is finally gaining the respect and credibility it deserves.

The official Pulitzer website described DAMN as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African American life."

Congrats to Kendrick Lamar.
